Across the breezy and tropical paradise of Gulfport Beach rests the quaint and local favorite restaurant, O’Maddy’s Bar and Grille. Aside from their mouth-watering cuisines and food entrees, they have a plethora of tasty cocktails that fellow Gulfportians tend to enjoy after a long day's work.  One of these delightful drinks is particularly special to Gulfport as it was contrived and named for the town. The Gulfport Guava Breeze is a fruity delicacy that is superbly delicious and cost friendly. The drink is composed of Guava Rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice. The …
Different forms of flasks have said to date back to the Middle Ages, but the type of flasks that exist today came into existence in the 18th Century.  In the 18th Century flasks were mostly made of silver but today they are mostly contrived using stainless steel. The purpose of a flask is to hold liquid, and most of the time the liquid contained in the flask is liquor.  At Domain Home Accessories, they have a variety of tasteful flasks that can be purchased. All of the flasks have clever sayings accompanied by the picture of a woman plastered upon them. Flasks are easier to carry than bottles…

Domain Home Accessories is a crafty cozy shop that is contrived of a variety of different artist’s works. One of the house decors in this shop are coasters that have neat sayings and pictures that are plastered upon them. One can rest their cup on top of Marilyn Monroe’s face or one can support the Rays by purchasing a Jesus hates the Red Sox or Jesus hates the Yankees coaster. These nifty coasters are made by a local graphic artist named Jim Spink and add flavor to Gulfport’s original flavor.  These graphic coasters are unique and local to the heart of Gulfport. Where: Domain Home …

The people of Gulfport love to recycle, so why not turn something old into something new. Check out this week's "Unique & Local" item for sale at Beach N' Body Boutique. The entire purse is contrived of recycled parts, and there is plenty of room inside for a person’s belongings.  This craft is unique and local to Gulfport. Where: Beach' N Body Boutique, 2904 Beach Blvd. South. When: Open primarily on Art Walk and Fresh Market Tuesdays …
In 1656 Christiaan Huygens created the first working grandfather clock. As time passed it became a marvelous decor for people to keep in their homes as well as a sole source for telling time. One can step back “in time” at Beach Bazaar’s antique and collectible shop by purchasing this late 1800’s grandfather clock. Its cherry wood like design seems to be in pristine shape. The clock itself is a part of history with many kept secrets.  The clock stands about one to two feet high which makes it a light and friendly attribute to a person's home. This grandfather clock is unique and local to …
Soap and washcloth, soap and loofah; these two typically go “hand in hand,” but hand felted soap combines the two separate items into one. At Rebecca Park Totilo’s Beach’ N Body Boutique, bars of vintage-style, mild soaps are roofed with Suri, Huacaya Alpaca, and wool, which are felted to encase the bar of soap.  While bathing, a person can have the luxury of grabbing this original bar of soap and polish their way to cleanliness without the use of a washcloth.  The fuzzy soap bars are quite gentle and will leave one feeling revitalized and clean.  The felt will minimize with the soap so that …
Take a leap back in time to the 1920s with Beach Bazaar’s antique Singer sewing machine. This machine oozes with pure nostalgia and childlike wonder. Its bronze-like design is worn with generations of use. This is not an electrical sewing machine that one would find at Walmart; this is an antique and uses a pedal press to operate its old-fashioned design. This pure marvel is one of a kind. Where: Beach Bazaar, 3115 Beach Blvd. S., Gulfport Price: $75
Nestled next door to First United Methodist Church of Gulfport is a small house filled with donations from the people of Gulfport and surrounding areas. Sophie's Attic Thrift Store is just the location to find clothing, shoes, jewelry, stuffed animals, purses, fishing gear and much more. Volunteers from the church run it, and its proceeds go toward helping the homeless. It is a great little shop for finding something original to purchase or for donating unwanted items. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure, and much treasure can be found at this unique and local thrift store.  Open: Friday…
The Outpost has many unique items and fashions that can be purchased and worn by those who enjoy Gulfport’s exceptional style. Aside from its original cowboy hats it also has a variety of colorful t-shirts which read, Keep Gulfport Weird.   Of course the word “weird” is subjective and for the town of Gulfport probably means diversity, fun and the fact that a person can be themself with no worries.  There is no person out there who cannot be he or herself in the town of Gulfport, which is why there is a second shirt that reads, If you’re too weird for Gulfport, you’re just too weird. I don’t …

Here in Gulfport on the south end of Veterans Park, located at the corner of Shore Boulevard and 54th street, right across from the water, is a beautifully contrived human sundial.  The sundial was donated to Gulfport by the Gulfport Historical Society for its 100th Anniversary on October 12th, 2010.  The human sundial or sun clock, as some may say, has been used for centuries to tell the time. The stones are aligned in a specific manner; typically there are 12 stones that are vertically aligned which has each of the twelve months written upon them. Above the stones in an arch formation are …
On this week's "Unique & Local" we bring you one-of-a-kind cowboy hats, found only in Gulfport. At Leslie Gilchrist’s gift shop, The Outpost, there is a vibrant array of cowboy hats that add character to the shop.  These cowboy hats are not the typical cowboy hats that one would see Clint Eastwood gripping with his fingertips and nodding his head while saying "Howdy".  These are fashionable hand painted hats, made by Leslie herself.  This item is a main seller in her store and the hats come in a variety of colors and designs.  The hats typically range anywhere from $45.00 to $95.00; the more …
