Patch Minute: Weekend Planner

The weekend is here! What's going on at the Beaches, Gulfport and St. Petersburg? We have a few ideas for you!

Welcome to Patch Minute and welcome to your weekend. Every week we'll fill you in on local events and things to do in St. Pete, Gulfport and the Gulf Beaches.

Gulfport

This week, we're starting in Gulfport with a few events for art enthusiasts! First we have the "2Cool Art Show," at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom on Saturday and Sunday from 10 - 5. The show is free, and as always we have free parking in Gulfport. There will be more than 40 artists displaying and selling their work.

Celebrate St. Valentine's Day early by stopping by The schork~munsell studios on 29th Ave S. on Sunday from 12 - 6 p.m. Artists are celebrating the holiday with their first group show, “Ars Erotica.” There will be live music and Owen Pach glass will have blown glass work and there will be body painting by Victoria Wenner. The show is free. Even though the theme is “erotic”, organizers say all work and events are tasteful and absolutely family friendly.

St. Pete Beach

Want to hang out on the beaches this weekend? Check out the musical sounds of Lew Barrows and The Rhythm Kings at the St. Pete Beach Community Center Ballroom. The event starts at 2 p.m. and . . it's free!

Got a motorcycle and want to take it out on Saturday? Check out the 2012 Crime Stoppers Coast Riders Motorcycle Run! They'll be taking off from Tierra Verde at 8 a.m. and finish in Clearwater. Are you interested? Cost is $25 per rider and $10 a passenger.

St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, we have Penn and Teller live at the Mahaffey Theater on Friday at 8 p.m.. Tickets start at $39.50. The show is open to all ages.

I'm personally looking forward to my Sunday in downtown St. Pete. That's because I'll be one of at least 8,000 people attempting to complete the St. Pete Rock and Roll Half Marathon! The half marathon begins at 7:30 Sunday morning and on Friday and Saturday there will be a Rock 'n' Roll Expo at Tropicana Field- noon to 6 on Friday, 10 - 5 on Saturday. The expo is free, parking is $15.

That wraps up this week's Patch Minute, thanks for joining me and remember to check out Patch.com for more local news, events and conversation. Have a great weekend everyone!
