Lady Pirates Bounce Back from Tough Loss to Gibbs

Bogie Lady Pirates Flag Football Team Win Decisively Against Countryside

After a disappointing season opening, 6-21 loss to Tuesday night, the Bogie Lady Pirates Flag Football team handily beat Countryside High School Wednesday night at home, 25-6. Led by team captain and quarterback Liz Hill, the Lady Pirates looked strong, with quick running offensively and solid defense.

“There was a lot of tears after the Gibbs loss Tuesday night and I wanted the girls to come out strong and confident, “ Head Coach Tim Henson said. “But we started a little slow; after La’Shavia Bingham’s first touchdown, the girls seem to get their confidence back and we just went from there.”

The assistant coaches, Tony Thompson and Lauren Kaminski said they have a strategy to keep the girls focused on the field.

“No matter how well we’re doing, we  always tell them the score is 0-0 so they keep their head in the game and avoid getting cocky, especially of we are way ahead in scoring,” Coach Kaminski said.

This year’s squad is leaner and meaner than last year’s team.

“We had almost 60 girls try-out,” Kaminski said. “But we whittled it down to 13. It’s a much smaller squad but better. Some of the girls play offense and defense. They have to really pull together and it’s made them a much stronger team at the core.”

The Lady Pirates next meet Northeast High Thursday night, 7 p.m. at Northeast.
