Get Ready for Gulfport's Get Rescued: Feb. 25

Here's what you need to know about one of the largest annual animal rescue fundraisers in Florida.

The 8th Annual Gulfport's Get Rescued fundraiser is expected to lure about 10,000 people to Gulfport on Saturday February 25, 2012. The all day free event and evening fundraiser will raise money for rescue groups from across the region and beyond. Here's what you need to know if you plan on coming to the event.

Daytime Event: Gulfport's Get Rescued is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Gulfport on Beach Boulevard. The daytime event is free and open to everyone including your furry friends.

Evening Event: Get Rescued Celebration is from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom at 5500 Shore Blvd. Proceeds from the event will be donated to rescue groups participating in the evening event.

  • Tickets are $20 per person and are on sale now. They can be bought at Domain Home Accessories and Bo-Tiki.
  • There will be a limited number of tickets at the door.
  • Live music, dancing, Hors d'oeuvre, cash bar
  • Silent and Live Auctions

For the public: The daytime festival is free from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Beach Boulevard in Gulfport. Owners can bring leashed, well behaved pets to the event.

  • Animal related vendors will line the streets.
  • Pet activities including pet parade, training demos, canine massage, music and games.
  • Live entertainment includes: Turley Brothers, Chicago Rich, D'Leid Parrots, Lola & the Sinners.

How you can help: Everyone is encouraged to donate dog and cat food, cat litter, and pet supplies to the rescues at the event. Supporters may also sponsor an individual animal group for $50. A sponsorship includes a sign at the group's booth during the event. Organizers also welcome merchandise or gift certificates for the silent and live auctions at the Get Rescued Celebration evening event.
