ATM Robber Bites Man Trying to Help Eldery Victim

A man was bitten when he tried to stop a robber from grabbing cash from a 70-year-old woman at the Wells Fargo ATM. The thief got away.

Gulfport Police are asking the public to help identify the suspect who stole $20 from an elderly woman at the Wells Fargo ATM Wednesday and then bit a motorist who tried to help her.

According to police, the Gulfport resident took out $20 in cash from the Wells Fargo ATM, at 2001 49th St. S., on Dec. 12 at 10:25 a.m. The woman was approaching her vehicle when the suspect walked up to her.

He allegedly grabbed her hand and pried the cash from it. He said “I need that money” before taking off.

The woman yelled for help and motorist driving by on a scooter responded, according to police. 

He began chasing the suspect and got into a struggle, in the 4900 block of 20th Ave S.

The suspect chomped down on the motorist's arm, prompting him to let go of the robber, who was able to run away. The motorist said that the suspect also threatened to cut him.

Gulfport Police need your help in identifying the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 6 feet tall, with gray, afro-style hair and some missing teeth. He was wearing a blue T-shirt.
