Aquamania 2012, June
Down I go!

There was no lack of "aqua" at Gulfport's first annual Aquamania on Saturday! Although the wet weather continued throughout the day, those who came out enjoyed plenty of activities for everyone in the family. People enjoyed a water propelled jetpack demonstration, a couple of fun races, children's play area including games, rides and salt watercolor area. One of the crowd pleasers of the day included the dunk tank which featured several "local celebrities," including Gulfport Patch Editor Cherlene Willis!

Be sure to check out our photos from the event and upload your own!

Thank you to all of the people who braved the wet to attend Aquamania. Those who did seem to have had a great time. Thank you to all my volunteers who smilingly went through the rigors of the day you guys are the bestest!

A big wet Aquamaniac thank you!

The first annual Aquamania went a little soggy but it was great fun had by all. Thank you to the Trade Winds Resort for kicking off the day with the JetLev demonstration. The Wrenchers started us off with scene setting surf music. The Mayor kicked off the Dunk Tank and the Kayak race went off without a hitch. We kept up the excitement through the rain drops with Joel and Dakota and the The Bawdy Boys, For Love or Money and CRAIC band then finally called it quits with the monumental trash talk recycle regatta race between Stella’s and O’Maddy’s. Due to the weather conditions I cracked midway through the race and told the racers to take the first buoy but of course I couldn’t be heard by Stella’s who continued out to the far buoy and officially won the race. Great effort put into these boats and lots of fun had by all.

Thank you to the City of Gulfport employees who always come through no matter what the conditions. An especially thank you to the Volunteers who hauled, slogged, and kept a smile on your face. Thank you Sandy Duffy for being our volunteer coordinator and Suzie King for arranging our vendors. Thank you to the ‘dunkees’ for being great sports.
