Some of Gulfport's finest will hit the road, literally, in the annual "Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics."
On Tuesday, April 10, 2012, several officers, firefighters and city staff will help carry the torch as it makes it's way through a 1500-mile relay through 66 counties in Florida.
According to the "Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics" website,
"This event is held each year prior to Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games. The intrastate torch relay will start at the end of March and culminate at the Opening Ceremonies on May 18, 2012."
Gulfport Police Detective Hanh Pham is helping raise money for the Special Olympics by selling T-shirts for $12.
"I want to make a difference. This is a way to make a difference in someone's life," Pham said.
Anyone interested in purchasing a T-shirt can contact Det. Hanh Pham at the Gulfport Police Department at 893-1041 or 893-1030.
All proceeds from T-shirt sales benefits the Special Olympics. They are available in S - 3XL.
